Living with Fibromylgia
My fibromyalgia was diagnosed in 2000. But the pain started several years before. I had to change doctors because they couldn’t understand the level of my pain. I was a gymnast & used to muscle pain. One day I realized my pain wasn’t normal. The doctor’s recommendations: No stress, it’s in your head (ex depression) or START EXERCISING! Except I worked out almost every day!
I quickly learned that no one in the care system had any knowledge about fibromyalgia! So I started talking to relatives & googling. My granny was diagnosed with Psoriasis arthritis & her sister had fibromyalgia. So I had a pretty good idea of what my pain was…

I was married with 3 kids, 2 dogs, worked full time as an office manager & lived in a big house with a garden. My husband was away working during the weeks. So I took care of everything.
The pain got worse and I understand why some people do ANYTHING to get relief from the pain. The pain gets into your soul, heart & mind & eventually you become depressed.
When I finally was diagnosed with fibromyalgia it didn’t change anything for me. I still have to fight for my right to get help. I was alone trying to learn how to live with this chronic illness.
I learned to live with Fibromylgia
I’ve learned to keep my life in balance. I try to do things that give me positive pain. I rather have pain because I have been travelling or because I have played hide and seek with my grandkids.
My pain’s never going away so I need to choose how I relate to it. Always staying home, doing nothing & complaining about my pain won’t help. So I travel, take care of our grandchildren, play bridge & exercise with our dog. It gives me energy to keep on living.
Today I`m living in a small village with my husband and dog, Frasse. Lucky for me I don’t have to fight with Försäkringskassan because my husband has his own company. We decided that it`s not worth the fight! I`m sad when I hear people talking about their fight with doctors and Försäkringskassan!
It’s crazy that doctors & Försäkringskassan continue to treat sick humans like this! Don’t they realize that it makes people more sick?
